Betawi Culture to Be Included in Schools Curriculum

The Jakarta provincial government says it plans to include traditional culture in formal education in order to conserve and prevent the extinction of Betawi culture.

“We already have the Jakarta Art Institute for higher education. Next year, the Jakarta government plans to build a vocational school with cultural competence,” said Jakarta Deputy Governor of Culture and Tourism Sukesti Martono.

He made the comment while attending a celebration of Jakarta’s 485th anniversary in Betawi Setu Babakan Village, Jagakarsa, on Sunday.

I think it's a good idea, to include the traditional culture of betawi to formal education curiculum. this is same like when the sunda traditional culture include in formal education curiculum. by this way, we are hope that the student can understand about the culture of the country that they live. they not really care I think with the culture, because they never want to learn about that. and they parents never teach and tell them too about the culture. even they are not a betawi people, but they live in betawi (Jakarta). learn and know the traditional culture of betawi can make the student think about they provinci where they live. they can take care of them, and have a feeling to blend with the culture. hope they can have a feeling to appreciate with the culture they have in betawi. as you know that betawi culture in this time not really famous like before. that is the homework to the government to save the traditional betawi culture from the west culture. it is the right way to include the betawi traditional to formal curiculum education, to try to save the betawi culture.
